NOVA provided special inspection and materials testing services on the UCSD Structural and Materials engineering building. A $70 million, 169,000 SF stand-alone building for the School of Engineering. The facility is intended to merge the areas of advanced materials testing with scientific visualization. The new building is five stories including a basement and includes 73 individual engineering labs, offices, conference center, visual arts studios and a high bay fabrication suite. Building structure is reinforced concrete and the exterior skin consists of exposed architectural concrete, glass curtain wall, plaster and ornamental sunshades.
